Winifred Poster

Dr. Winifred R. Poster teaches in International Affairs at Washington University, St. Louis. Her interests are in digital globalization, feminist labor theory, and technologies of activism. With a regional focus on South Asia, she follows the outsourcing of US high tech and call center firms to India. Her research explores ethnographic transformations in ICT work through automation, artificial intelligence, crowdsourcing, and virtual assistants. She also has projects on surveillance, national borders, and cybersecurity, appearing in Nature and Wired Germany. She is a co-author of books Invisible Labor, and Borders in Service (2016), and has contributions in books Captivating Technology, and DigitalSTS (2019).
