Riksa Afiaty
Riksa Afiaty, based in Indonesia, is keen to continuously contest curatorial and institutional positions and exhibition making using a decolonial aestheSis model to counter euro-centric views in redefining art by addressing power structures responsible for oppression and a heteronormative approach. She was a resident in the Jan Van Eyck Academy in Maastricht.
She shares the project Padat Merayap (Congestion), where speakers touched upon a variety of practices to develop strategies, scenarios, models and critical visualisations that deal with the discourse of decolonization. The term decolonize is going through a period of turmoil. Both national narratives - Dutch and Indonesian failed to acknowledge history, the struggle for independence, gender erasure, the dominant system of representation, as well as naming and validation.
