Julia Roth
Prof. Dr. Julia Roth is Professor of American Studies with a focus on Gender Studies at the University of Bielefeld. Her work foci are feminist and gender studies, postcolonial theories, decolonial approaches, intersectionalities and global inequalities, gender and citizenship, and lately, gender and right-right populism and feminist contestations. She held research and teaching positions at the Humboldt University of Berlin, the Free University of Berlin, and the University of Guadalajara, Mexico. Alongside her academic work, she organizes cultural-political events (e.g. the theatre festival-symposium Grenzgängerinnen Frauen/Bilder der Americas in Bewegung 2010, BE.BOP 2016 Black Europe Body Politics curated by Alanna Lockward). She is editor and author of polar magazine, and her long essay Can Feminism Trump Populism? Right-Wing Trends and Intersectional Contestations in the Americas (2019) is in print.
