Traumhotels (Lampedusa) und Die Umrundung der Insel Lampedusa
,

2012, series of photographs and 2014, video

Sven Johne shows a series of photo wall papers, which he has spread around the Maxim Gorki Theater and the Palais am Festungsgraben. The photographs render views from Lampedusa hotel rooms, directing the gaze in touristic manner out from the beautiful interiors onto the open sea. The pleasant summer holiday mood seems almost obscene in its striking contrast to the images that circulate in the media, who have stylized Lampedusa as epitome of European border and migration issues. The video work Die Umrundung der Insel Lampedusa shows the opposite view: the sheer endless circling around the island, without ever arriving.

Sven Johne, born 1976 in Bergen on Rügen, lives and works in Berlin. International exhibitions at the MMK , Frankfurt am Main (2012), the MoCA, Taipei (2013), the 5th Thessaloniki Biennale (2015) and the KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin (2015.
