What to do? This question is also posed to theatre makers with respect to refugee policy. But when they really become active, the state moves quickly to stand in their way: In Berlin, an Europäischer Mauerfall (Fall of the European Wall) action was criticized by the German Bundestag, and in Hamburg an artistic director was pressed with criminal charges. What forms of intervention are possible, what level of engagement is necessary? How much power and responsibility do cultural institutions have? What dangers and difficulties lie in the grey area between activism and art?
