Stolen History - Statue of Liberty
,

2011, Materialization

In 2009, Knorr covered the heads of a number of statues in the public squares of Copenhagen with balaclavas, depriving the sculptural figures of their glorious identities while cladding them with a frightening but at the same time emancipating guise of anonymity. Extending this series, Stolen History–Statue of Liberty continues with the idea of disrupting the visual vocabulary of official ideologies by symbolically stealing the Statue of Liberty, a dominant landmark of freedom, and letting its veiled head float in the air.
