,

2012-2013, Installation

The study of infrastructural campaigns of Wilhelmine Germany in the Near East, such as the construction of the Baghdad railway, has led Raum to develop installations that merge her findings with elements of performance, sculpture and painting. She has specifically focused on the shifting rhetoric of these campaigns, starting with a sense of belatedness in colonial investments, then attaining the self-secured, mechanic language of superiority and finally – after coming into contact with the people and the reality of the region–a hesitant and defeated tone.

Judith Raum, artist, born in 1977 in Werneck, Germany. Lives and works in Berlin.
